I just completed reading Gay Is A Gift by author Salvatore Sapienza. WOW, what an eye opener and most inspiring read. It is one of those books that makes you stop and reflect to see if you really are empowering yourself and those around you with the GIFTS that were given to you at birth. In Salvatore’s book he makes mention of religious people knowing scripture backward and forward with some of them only knowing God on an intellectual level with no emphasis on the spiritual level. I was raised Catholic by a Dad who was very devout and religious and a Mother who was more on the spiritual side of the aisle. The two of them managed to balance the scales for me. Today I no longer worship in the Catholic Church. People ask me of what faith I practice and I tell them it’s a private spiritual thing between thing between my creator and me.I am so glad you decided to make the word GIFT plural with an S for Service. Service is a key element for me to live a purpose driven life and share my gifts. In closing I thank you for the thought inspiring messages that you conveyed and planted into my mind. As a gay male on the spiritual side of the aisle it was very refreshing to read this book. Gay is a blessing and I am thankful for it every single day.

I downloaded this book to my android and read some of it, then attended a book club. It wasnt navigable to flip back and fourth for a study, the pages were not the same as the book. I never did finish the book from my droid.Waste of money. The book was ok, the download easy. Just not recommended to a cell phone!

Salvatore Salpienza does a great job demonstrating the fact that we are God's children and have been gifted with special qualities. After reading this book, one feels so much better about themselves and can start to release the shame, guilt, anger and fear that often comes with being gay.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, gay or straight, who is interested in the history of gays and how to overcome homophobia.
I have been anxiously awaiting a new release by the author. Have purchased both of his books and enjoyed both ver much. He is/was developing a strong and effective writing voice.

Gay is a Gift, by Salvatore Sapienza, is a treasured, short compilation of help for gay men and women who are trying to connect or re-connect their gayness with religion and spirituality. The book may "favor" Catholic authors for background material, but I believe anyone "with a religious background" can benefit from his insights and inspiration.
The author offers an truly enlightened view of what it means to be gay and rallies the reader around the idea that being gay is not a curse, but a wonderful gift. The author gently weaves together the wisdom of many gay spiritual leaders (Ram Dass, Father Mychal Judge, Malcolm Boyd) creating a convincing argument "that we have been given our gay giftedness by Divine right and for Divine reason". His call for the gay community to embrace forgiveness and let go of the idea that our grudges and anger are in some way justified is the call for all of us to see beyond the outer aspects of our lives and allow our Divine Gift to shine! The very last page of his book contain the words to a powerful song written by Libby Roderick -- "How could anyone ever tell you, you are anything less than beautiful? How could anyone ever tell you, you are less than whole? How could anyone fail to notice that your loving is a miracle? How deeply you're connected to my soul." Gay is a Gift is a must read!
