Marnie Walker needs a change.
She’s doing well at the interior design firm, her life is back on track after the divorce thanks to a much-needed long break upon her sister’s boat, Sally Ann.

However, there is something strange about her new home. Strange underlying tensions between the vicar and the villagers, are inexplicably still tearing the village into factions.
And it all points back to the murder of Knightly’s vicar in 1645.
As Marnie begins to investigate, she finds herself trying to solve – not one murder – but two.
Two murders that, despite being separated by almost 350 years, are eerily similar.

I don't usually write a review, only when I'm very impressed with a book. This is one of those times. Very well written, enjoyable while at the same time it had me gripped. I'm only sad I've finished it, it's one of those books you wish would go on for so much longer!Product details

Loved it! A great mixture of mystery, history and murder and a wonderful tour of the Canals of England.
Interesting story and characters and appears to be part of a series but I haven't been able to locate any other books in the series.
Marnie, an interior designer, finds renewed passion and purpose from living on a houseboat, buying a ruined farm, and mentoring an aspiring young designer as her assistant. But the village she's moved to was torn apart centuries ago by the feuds of the English Civil War, and when the vicar is killed, Marnie realizes that history can be deadly.
The characters are interesting and appealing and the plot, though it drags at times, is full of twists and red herrings. The ending is quite ingenious.
Oh lordy, this book just went on, and on, and ON! It progressed by inches, and just got to be terminally boring. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight too. The sister in the story kept whining about the heroine's using her boat all the time, yet didn't want to use it herself because they were "too busy, and didn't have time". So, sell the thing already!
After reading about 1/3 of it, I decided to skip ahead several times, and guess what? I didn't lose the thread of the story. Skipped ahead to 90%, found out whodunit, and that was that. Then there was the obsession with the English Civil War some 350 years before. I thought the Southerners in the US were obsessed over our Civil War...they can't hold a candle to the English, apparently.
This book could have used a good editor and cut out about half of the fluff to make it tighter instead of meandering around. I hate giving so few stars, but I don't think I'll read another book by this author.
The book is well-written but too much detail. The book just drags on and on, sort of like watching the grass grow under a microscope. I got about one-third through the book and just gave up with a big yawn. By that time I didn't care how it ended. The flashbacks to historical situations really detracted from the book and were not really relevant.
Too slow
This book kept me on the edge of my chair. Very interesting. Need to read more books by this author.
